February 2003

Nominations for the 2003 Abel Prize are underway at The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. Named for Niels Henrik Abel (1802-1829 and announced early last year, the Abel Prize was created to recognize outstanding scientific achievement within the field of Mathematics.  The name of the first Abel laureate will be released in April 2003, and the award ceremony will be held in June.

At ISIHighlyCited.com, we will be waiting eagerly to see if one of the members of ISIHighlyCited.com is honored as the recipient of the 2003 Abel Prize.  We list the 231 researchers we have identified as Highly Cited for their articles in the Mathematics category.

These Highly Cited Researchers are now in the process of editing and updating the biographic portion of their records. More than 125 institutions are represented, with the highest concentration of researchers located in University of Minnesota; University of California, Berkeley; Stanford University; and Princeton University. Several institutions in the UK also figure prominently in the list.  We will publish the bibliographic portion of these records later in the year.
